“If you’re not totally sold on the Bynum-to-Howard upgrade for the Lakers, watch Spain and Argentina attack the rim against Team USA during the medal round. Had Howard played in the Olympics, nobody would have touched this American team — we could have rolled out LeBron, Howard, Durant, Carmelo, Chris Paul and the cast of The Big Bang Theory and still won every game by double figures.”

Good news for the Lakers (the deal is valued at approximately $3 billion and gives them their own TV network) and Time Warner.
Bad news KCAL, Fox Sports West and the 620,000 homes that don’t have a cable subscription and will now see only nationally telecast Laker games.
“Time is our best friend and our worst enemy. Experience makes you better, but it means you’re running out. You do want to maximize your time and take advantage of situations and the opportunities that present itself. I can’t take advantage if I’m watching or not doing anything.”
“Some time ago, I’m talking to some people and they wanted a bonus if the Lakers make the playoffs. I said, ‘If they don’t make the playoffs, you don’t work here anymore.’”

IT’S OFFICIAL: They’re getting the band back together for one more season. In Phil Jackson’s own words:
“Count me in. After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”
Bring on your LeBron/Wade/Bosh supergroups. Phil, Kobe, and the rest of the crew will be waiting.

I know I promised a few Laker haters I’d move on, but there is one bit of unfinished business I have to address.
In addition to securing their 16th championship in dramatic fashion on Thursday night, the Lakers also earned the Press Conference of the Year honor in the very last presser of the 2010 season, thanks to this 9:50 of pure brilliance by the one and only Ron Artest.
